STATEMENTS AND LETTERS
Expression of gratitude to the emergency workers involved in the salvage operation following the disaster of the sightseeing boat „Hableány”
It is going to be a long time before the sight of the „Hableány” fades from memory in Hungary and South Korea as it slowly emerged from underwater and as rescue workers stood saluting in honour of the recovered victims.
An extraordinary drama unfolded on the Danube at Budapest during the past weeks, every moment of which attested to the value of life and to grace.
Our thanks go to all those who have been working to save lives from the moment the tragic boat accident happened.
We owe gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly in especially difficult, sometimes almost impossible conditions, risking their own lives to search for and to rescue survivors and victims, and to bring the damaged vessel to the surface.
Divers, sailors, paramedics, police officers, technical and security professionals, engineers and several hundreds of other professionals all deserve our respect for standing up to the emergency, for their outstanding professional expertise, the well-organized rescue operation and last but not least for the heroism they have demonstrated.
On behalf of Hungary I would like to express my gratitude to them for making it possible for family members of the victims to pay their last respects to their loved ones.
The work they carried out in international cooperation, with great diligence and determination gives credit not only to them, but to the entire country as well.
Thank you for this!
