Summary on the activity of the President of the Republic László Sólyom in 2007

On 9 January 2007 President László Sólyom took part and gave a speech at the statutory meeting of the All Military Forces' Headquarters of the Hungarian Army.  On 12 January László Sólyom received Gilbert Chauny de Porturas-Hoyle, leaving ambassador of Peru at a farewell visit. Also on 12 January the President received Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan in the Sándor Palace and handed over letters of appointment to state secretaries.  On 16 January on the occasion of the new year László Sólyom gave a reception for the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Hungary.  On 18 January the President received Husszein Moussawi, leaving ambassador of Lebanon at a farewell visit. Also on 18 January As patron of the International Children's Safety Service Hungarian Association, he gave a reception in the association's honor. The same day the President took part at the presentation of László Majtényi's newest book (Freedom of information - data protection and publicity of data of public interest).  On 26 January László Sólyom received at a farewell visit Luis Felipe de Carrilho Castro Mendes, leaving Ambassador of Portugal. Also on 26 January President László Sólyom awarded the Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (civil division) to Zhu Zhushou, leaving Ambassador of China, he received Barbara Prammer, President of the National Council of Austria, and received members of Parliament and Mayors of Békés and Csongrád counties, Klára Perjési (Mayor of Gyula, Member of Parliament of MSZP), János Lázár (Mayor of Hódmezővásárhely, Member of Parliament of FIDESZ), László Domokos (Chairman of Békés County Assembly, Member of Parliament of FIDESZ) and Mihály Babák (Mayor of Szarvas, Member of Parliament of FIDESZ) too. On 27 January László Sólyom took part at the commemoration held in the Holocaust Memorial Centre of Páva street on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.  Also on 27 January on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, the President laid a wreath at the Roma Holocaust Memorial in the Nehru Park. On 30 January László Sólyom arrived at the first stage of his country-visiting series bearing the motto: Value-preserving landscapes and people in Hungary, he visited the Körös-Maros National Park and the surrounding settlements, where he was accompanied by his wife Erzsébet Sólyom. On 31. January the President continued his visit at the Körös-Maros National Park and its surrounding settlements.

On 2 February President László Sólyom took over the credentials from ambassadors newly accredited to Hungary: Dimitrios Kypreos of the Republic of Greece, Cecilia Björner of the Kingdom of Sweden, Mangasi Sihombing of the Republic of Indonesia, Florian Nova of the Republic of Albania and Ivan Bandic of the Republic of Croatia. On 9 February the President and Erzsébet Sólyom, previous President Ferenc Mádl and Dalma Mádl congratulated former President Árpád Göncz on the occasion of his 85th birthday. Árpád Göncz was accompanied by Zsuzsa Göncz.  On 11 February in Bucharest, László Sólyom handed over decorations to Romanian citizens sentenced because of supporting the 1956’s revolution and freedom fight. On 12 February the President paid a two-day state visit in Romania.  On 13 February on the last day of his trip in Romania, László Sólyom visited Targu Mures and Cluj-Napoca.  On 16 February he received Pavol Paška, Speaker of the Slovak National Council.  On 19 February László Sólyom opened the photo-portrait exhibition, named 'New Lives', which is organized by the Canadian Embassy in the house of the Hungarian Culture Fund.  On 20 February he took over the credentials from ambassadors newly accredited to Hungary, from Ian Cilanzi Beattie Sikazwe of the Republic of Zambia, Alan Howard Cook of New Zealand, Pengiran Yunus Mahmud of Brunei and Jonas Sponkie Melewa of the Kingdom of Lesotho. On the same day he also received at a farewell visit Tawatchai Piyarat, leaving Ambassador of Thailand and Zsigmond Járai Governor of the National Bank of Hungary and György Szapáry Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Hungary. On 21 February the President received Franco Frattini, Vice President of the European Commission.  On 25 February laid a wreath and delivered a speech at the commemoration held on the anniversary day of the victims of the communism at Csolnok.

On 1 March 2007 President László Sólyom received Besnik Mustafaj, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Albania. Also on 1 March he handed over the letter of appointment to András Simor, Governor of the National Bank of Hungary. Om 6 March the President received Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister of Ukraine. On 12 March László Sólyom left for a non-official visit to Romania, Transylvania. On the second day of his non-official visit in Transylvania on 13 March, the President visited Fehéregyháza, Gyulafehérvár, Nagyenyed and Torockó. On 14 March, on the third day of his non-official visit in Transylvania, he paid a visit at Bonchida, Válaszút and Zsobok, then, he delivered a speech at the celebration of 15th March in the Hungarian State Opera in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca). On the last day of his non-official visit in Transylvania, on 15 March László Sólyom paid a visit at Nagyvárad (Oradea). He handed over the prizes of the environmental drawing competition in the offices of the International Children Saving Service. Also on 15 March the President paid a visit to the celebrations on the Lánchíd (Chain Bridge) and  handed over Kossuth and Széchenyi Prizes and granted decorations on the occasion of 15th March. The same day took part at the gala performance held in the Palace of Arts. On 16 March László Sólyom took part at the XVII National Meeting of Hungarian Environment and Conservationist Associations in Kecskemét. On 22 March the President paid an official visit in Poland. On the second day of his official visit in Poland, on 23 March, he visited Warsaw and Przemyśl. On 23 March on the third day of his visit in Poland, László Sólyom laid a wreath in the Austrian-Hungarian cemetery in Krasiczyn and opened the conference of cooperating self governments of Poland and Hungary held in the Kazimierzowski Palace. On 27 March the President received Karolos Papulias, President of the Republic of Greece staying on official visit in Hungary. Also on 27 March he awarded the Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Jacques Diouf, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and handed over the letter of appointment to Ferenc Karvalits, Deputy Governor of the Hungarian National Bank.  On 29 March President László Sólyom took part and gave an address at the commemorative conference titled 'The 50th Anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, Reflections on the European Integration Process' held in the Institute of Italian Culture.  On 30 March  László Sólyom received Mirek Topolánek, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. The same day he received at a farewell visit Hans Michael Kofoed-Hansen, leaving Ambassador of Denmark and Clare Birgin, leaving Ambassador of Australia.

On 2 April 2007 President László Sólyom took over the letter of credentials from ambassadors newly accredited to Hungary, from Francisco M.Guimaraes Henriques da Silva of the Republic of Portugal, Piamsak Milintachinda of the Kingdom of Thailand and Zhang Chuxiang of China. On 10 April László Sólyom took part at the informal meeting of Heads of State of the Arraiolos-group: Austria, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland and Portugal.  On 11 April the President gave a welcome address at the third section meeting titled Living in Europe and the World of the informal meeting of the Heads of State of the Arraiolos-group and took part at the forum titled Future of Europe.  On 13 April on the occasion of the Day of the Roma Culture László Sólyom gave a reception at the Sándor Palace. On 16 April the President paid a visit at the Holocaust Documentary Centre and Memorial Place in Páva street. Also on 16 April he took part at the presentation of the catalogue of the exhibition titled "Út (route) 1956-2006" in the Art Gallery.  On 19 April László Sólyom took part and delivered a speech at the memorial conference of János Esterházy held in the Institute of Historical Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
On 20 April the President received the representatives of the Hungarian College Ferenc Rákóczi I of Sub-Carpathia and those of the Foundation Eudoxia 20 in the Sándor Palace.  On 21 April László Sólyom in the company of his wife, Erzsébet Sólyom and grandchildren went to visit the Environmental Playhouse organized on the occasion of the Earth Day in front of the Sándor Palace on Szent György square. On 22 April he participated in the Critical Mass bike ride through Budapest. On 24 April, on the first day of his state visit in Canada, László Sólyom traveled to Toronto. On 25 April, he went to Ottawa.  On the third day of his state visit in Canada, on 26 April he had several programs in Ottawa.  The President laid a wreath at the monument of the refugees of 1956 in Maple Island. On 27 April, on the fourth day of his visit in Canada, the President went to Calgary, and on the last day of his visit in Canada, on 28 April he made a short hike to the Johnston canyon. On 30 April László Sólyom awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Charles Simonyi. The same day he attended one of the matches of Ladies' Football European Championships organized by the Hungarian Special Olympics Federation in Kecskemét.

On 3 May 2007 President László Sólyom has left for a two-day official visit to Croatia. On 4 May, on the second day of his state visit in Croatia, he took part at several programs in Orahovica, Osijek and Zmajevac. On 5 May the President received Mayors of Vas and Győr-Moson-Sopron counties. On 7 May László Sólyom handed over the appointment letter to Gábor Fodor, Minister for Environment and Water Management. On 11 May the President handed over the letter of appointment to Attila Kovács, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health. The same day he  received Gábor Fodor, Minister for Environment and Water Management. On 13 May in the frame of the country-visiting series bearing the motto: Value-preserving landscapes and people in Hungary, László Sólyom has left for the Fertő-Hanság and Őrség National Park for a three-day stay. On 14 May, on the second day of his visit in the Fertő-Hanság and Őrség National Park, he saw Sarród, Fertőújlak, Hegykő, Nagycenk and Sárvár.  On the third day of his visit on 15 May in the Fertő-Hanság and Őrség National Park, he saw Kőszeg, Szombathely, Őriszentpéter, Szalafő and Szentgotthárd.  On 17 May László Sólyom paid a visit at the State Auditor's Office. On the same day he took over credentials from ambassadors newly accredited to Hungary, from Dato' Kamilan Maksom of Malaysia, Alexander John Brooking of Australia, Piero Dario Coen Montealegre of Nicaragua and Adeola Adesbisi Obileye of Nigeria. On 18 May in the frame of a conference titled 'Hungarians Beyond Borders in the 21st Century. Autonomy, Regionalism, Regional Development', President László Sólyom conferred with scientists and intellectuals from Hungary and from abroad. Also On 18 May László Sólyom took part and gave a speech at the solemn concert held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the building of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.  On 21 May the President awarded the Commander's Cross with the Star Order of Merit (civil division) of the Republic of Hungary to Mr.Sándor Lámfalussy, Professor Emeritus, Head of the Institute of European Studies of the University of Louvain for his outstanding theoretical and practical work in the sphere of economic policy including monetary policy, for his decisive role in establishing the European Economic and Monetary Union, and for raising Hungary's international reputation. On the same day he received on a farewell visit Mr.Jenő Kaltenbach, Parliamentary Commissioner for National and Ethnic Minority Rights in the Sándor Palace. On 23 May László Sólyom presented to the leaders of the parliamentary factions László Majtényi, nominee for Parliamentary Commissioner of Citizens' Rights and Ernő Kállai, nominee for Parliamentary Commissioner of National and Ethnic Minority Rights. Also on 23 May he received Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China. At their conversation, they surveyed the relations of the two countries, the possibilities for developing the economic cooperation. They exchanged views on the situation of the scientific and educational connections, on the issues of environmental protection and those of human rights. On 24 May the President has left for Brno of Czech Republic where the 14th Meeting of Central European Heads of State is going to be held. On 25 May he participated at the 14th Meeting of Central European Heads of State held in Brno of Czech Republic.  On 27 May on the occasion of the Hungarian Heroes' Day, President László Sólyom wreathed at the commemorating ceremony  held on the Heroes' square. On 29 May László Sólyom received King of Spain Juan Carlos.  On 30 May he listened to the speech delivered by King Juan Carlos in the Hall of Upper House of the Parliament. Ont he same day the President received the leaders of the Alliance of Hungarians in Voivodina: István Pásztor, Chairman, Zoltán Dévavári, Vice-Chairman and Tibor Váradi, Advisor to the President. On 31 May handed over the letter of appointment to Albert Takács, Minister of Justice and Law Enforcement.Also on 31 May in the company of Juan Carlos he took part at the opening of the Hungarian-Spanish businessmen forum in the Museum of Military History.  Ont he same day László Sólyom has left for a three-day state visit to Malta.

On 1 June 2007, on the second day of his visit in Malta President László Sólyom took part at several programs in Valletta, Msida, Mdina and Attardi.  On the last day of his visit in Malta on 2 June he took leave of his host, President Edward Fenech-Adami in the frame of a farewell ceremony held at the airport. On the same day the President traveled to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria for a three-day official visit.  On 3 June, on the second day of his visit in Algeria, László Sólyom paid a visit in the provinces of Batna and Biskra. On the last day of his visit in Algeria, on 4 June he took part at several programs in Algiers. On 7 June László Sólyom took part and addressed some welcome words at the opening ceremony of the 10th Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care. On 8 June the President László Sólyom received the leaders of the professors' organization Study Group on a European Civil Code in the Sándor Palace. On 11 June László Sólyom took part and delivered a speech at the prize awarding ceremony of the 16th Youth Scientific and Innovation Talent Discovering Contest. Also on 11 June he received Josefina Topalli, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament. On the same day he awarded the Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (civil division) to Pekka Kujasalo, leaving Ambassador of Finland for strengthening the Hungarian-Finish relationship, for consolidation of the investments and for the development of the Hungarian-Finish co-operation in the field of culture, education and citizenship. He also took part at the plenary session of the Parliament when the Members of Parliament decided on the persons of the new parliamentary commissioners. On 12 June László Sólyom has left for a two-day visit to Germany. On 13 June, on the second day of his visit in Germany he had a meeting with Federal President of Germany Horst Köhler in Berlin. On 24 June the President received Abdullah Il Ibn Al-Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. On 15 June László Sólyom opened the conference "Week of Hungarian National Parks 2007 - Ecotourism and Nature Protection: Challenges and Answers" and visited the pavilions of the National Parks. On 16 June on the occasion of the memorial day of Imre Nagy and his martyr-fellows in the company of General Béla Király he wreathes in the cemetery of Rákoskeresztúr. Also on 16 June on the occasion of the memorial day of Imre Nagy and his martyr-fellows the President laid a wreath at the Monument of Imre Nagy. On the same day he paid a visit in Vienna where he participated and delivered a speech at the ceremony held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Austrian Maltese Hospital Service, as well as, he carried on talks with Heinz Fischer, Federal President of Austria. On 19 June  László Sólyom introduced Máté Szabó, nominee for parliamentary commissioner of citizen’s rights to the faction leaders of the parliamentary parties. On 25 June he handed over the appointment letter to Gordon Bajnai, Minister of Municipalities and Regional Development, to Tibor Draskovics, Minister without Portfolio, to Péter Kiss, Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, to Mónika Lamperth, Minister of Social and Labour Affairs, to György Szilvásy, Minister without Portfolio as well as to Imre Iváncsik, State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office and Ágnes Vadai, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence. On the same day he handed over in the Sándor Palace the appointment letter to Tibor Szántó, Member of the Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority.

On 10 July 2007, President László Sólyom received Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine. On the same day he received Dimitri Rupel, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and handed over the appointment letter to Júlia Király, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Hungary. On 11 July President László Sólyom and Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine inaugurated the statue of the Ukrainian poet, Taras Shevchenko. Also on 11 July László Sólyom received at a farewell visit Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Dahi, leaving Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Maurithania and awarded the Commander's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Robert Edward Hage, leaving Ambassador of Canada and to Tran Huu Tung, leaving Ambassador of Vietnam. On the same day the President received László Hámos, President of the Hungarian Human Rights Foundation.

On 13 August 2007 credentials from ambassadors newly accredited to Hungary, from Jari Vilén of the Republic of Finland, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi of Namibia and Carlos Higueras Ramos of the Peruvian Republic. On 19 August President László Sólyom participated at the celebration of the St. Stephen's Day in Diakovce (Deáki), Slovakia. On 20 August László Sólyom was present at the flag hoisting on the Kossuth Square and at the passing-out parade on the Hero's Square; he handed over the State Decorations in the Parliament, and was present within the group of the large families association (NOE) at the Holy Mass in the St. Stephen's Basilica. Ont he same day he took part at the state ceremonies and delivered a speech in Székesfehérvár.  On 21 August László Sólyom received Angela Merkel Chancellor of Germany. Also on 21 August he received at a farewell visit Pengiran Yunus Mahmud, leaving ambassador of Brunei and Alexander von Egen, Vice President of Trentino-South Tirol Region. On the same day he promoted Major General János Nagy, Commissioner of the Hungarian Customs and Finance Guard to Lieutenant General of customs.  On 23 August László Sólyom took part at the meeting of Researcher Students in the main building of the Faculty of Natural Science of Eötvös Loránd University, and then he gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Conference of Stress.  On 28 August the President received the heads of faction and economic policy experts of the parliamentary parties. On the same day he handed over the appointment document to Andrea Máger, member of the Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority.

On 1 September 2007 President László Sólyom paid a visit at the Tessedik Sámuel Regional Primary School of Cserhátsurány where he took part and gave an address at the re-opening ceremony of the school-year.  On 3 September László Sólyom handed over the appointment documents for university professors in the Museum of Ethnography.  On 4 September the President – in company of Croatian President Stjepan Mesić and Serbian President Boris Tadić – visited the Nagyrét of Kölked in Hungary, the tide lands of Batina in Serbia and the Kopacki rit in Croatia. On 10 September László Sólyom gave an address at the plenary session of the Parliament. On the same day he met the participants of the Bellevue Programme. On 11 September the President received Dandzan Lhundédzsancan, Chairman of the Great People’s Hural of Mongolia, then he credentials from ambassadors newly accredited to Hungary, from Joan Pujal Laborda of Andorra, Pierre Guimond of Canada, Mads Sandau-Jensen of the Kingdom of Denmark and Nguyen Quoc Dung, of Vietnam. Also on 11 September he received Nikola Špirić, Prime Minister of Bosnia-Herzegovina. On 13 September László Sólyom paid a visit in Subotica of Serbia. On 14 September the President received Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic of France. On the same day he gave a reception for the participants of the Forum of Hungarian Representatives of Carpathian Basin. On 17 September in presence of László Sólyom, sportsmen participating in the 12th Special Olympic Summer Games in Shanghai swore an oath. On 18 September the President received Han Duck-soo, Prime Minister of the Republic of Corea. Also on 18 September he awarded the Commander's Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to José Luis Martínez y Hernández, leaving Ambassador of Mexico and received Benjamin Ferencz, the only living prosecutor of the Nurnberg Trial. On 19 September the President received Valery Zorkin, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation. On 20 September he received Adrian Cioroianu Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania. On the same day László Sólyom and Lech Kaczyński President of Poland wreathed the wooden headboard at the road 7 erected in memory of the victims of the Polish bus accident happened on 1 July 2002. Also on 20 September the President in the company of Lech Kaczyński, President of Poland, Václav Klaus, President of Czech Republic and  Ivan Gašparovič, President of Slovakia took part at the Summit of Visegrad Four held at Keszthely. On 21 September participated at the second-day program of the Visegrad Four Summit in Keszthely. On 22 September László Sólyom took part and delivered a speech at the ceremony organized on the occasion of the anniversary of the definitive liquidation of the one-time forced labor camp at Recsk. On 24 September he took part at the plenary session of the Parliament when Máté Szabó was elected to parliamentary commissioner of citizen’s rights. On 25 September László Sólyom awarded the Commander's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Valery Petrovich Markov, Chairman of the Consultative Committee of the World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples. On 26 September the President received Mayors of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county and handed over state decorations for those who could not receive it on 20 August, than he received Georgi Pirinski, Chairman of the National Assembly of Bulgaria.  On 28 September László Sólyom received Kandeh Yumkella Director-General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization.  On 28 September the President took part and delivered a speech at the Bolyai prize-awarding ceremony in Vígszínház (Víg Theatre).

On 1 October 2007 President László Sólyom handed over appointment documents to State Secretaries. On 2 October he paid a visit to Komarno in Slovakia. On 3 October the President took part and gave an address at the conference titled ’In the 24th hour? or the effects of the global warming on Europe and Hungary’. On the same day he took over credentials from Ambassadors newly accredited to Hungary, from Eliza Ben-Nun of the State of Israel, René Roudaut of the Republic of France, Soraya Elena Álvarez Núñez of Cuba and Isabel Damián Karekides of Panama, and he also received France Cukjati, Chairman of the Parliament of Slovenia.  On 4 October László Sólyom awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Magda Szabó.  On 6 October, on the National Day of Mourning László Sólyom took part at hoisting and lowering to half-mast of the State Banner of the Republic of Hungary, on the Kossuth square, then he laid a wreath at the Batthyány Mausoleum. On 7 October in the frame of the country-visiting series bearing the motto: Value-preserving landscapes and people in Hungary, the President has left for the Aggtelek National Park for a three-day stay.  On the second day of his visit in the Aggtelek National Park, on 8 October he saw Aggtelek, Jósvafő, Tomor and Mád. On the third day of his visiton 9 October he took a walk in the Aranyos-völgy and saw Vizsoly, Széphalom, Sátoraljaújhely and Sárospatak.   On 10 October László Sólyom received Lee Hsien Loong Prime Minister of Singapore. On 11 October the President received Ursula Plassnik, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria.  On 13 October László Sólyom took part and gave an address at the inauguration of a sepulcher erected at Ebes in memory of the innocent victims died in forced labor camps of the communist dictatorship. On 15 October he has left for a two-day state visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina. On 16 October, on the second day of his visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina, the President went to see the EUFOR Camp Butmir; later on he visited the Hutovo Nature Reserve and the city of Mostar. Also on 16 October he has left for a two-day state visit to Montenegro. On the second day of his visit in Montenegro, on 17 October László Sólyom carried on negotiations in Cetinje and Podgorica.  On 19 October the President handed over general’s appointments. On 22 October he handed over 1956’s Commemorative Medals and Plaques to the decorated ones in the Bourbon-house than he took part and delivered a speech at the commemorative ceremony held at the Technical University of Budapest and wreathed the 56’s Monument of the Technical University. Afterwards he participated at the gala performance held in the State Opera.  On 23 October László Sólyom took part at the hoisting of the State Banner of the Republic of Hungary on the Kossuth square. On the same day he placed a bouquet of flowers at Nagy Imre’s statue, than he was present at the ceremony held at the 56’s Memorial. Also on 23 October on the proposal of the Prime Minister, President László Sólyom awarded the Nagy Imre Order of Merit to Mrs. Zsuzsa Ferge, academician, Széchenyi prized sociologist, to Mr. István Gereben, geophysicist, oceanographer, to Mrs. Márta Mészáros, film director, to Mr. János Rainer M., historian, to Mr. József Ujvári, retired brigadier general for recognition of their exemplary patriotic behaviour serving for the independence of Hungary, and for their activity in the interest of establishing the social dialogue, the social peace, the national unity and the peaceful change of regime. On 26 October the President received Szilveszter Vizi E., President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. On the same day representatives of the SZORAKESZ (Organization of Former Hungarian Political Prisoners and Forced Labourers in the Soviet Union) handed over a memorial medal to President László Sólyom and Béla Király handed over a National Guard Badge to President László Sólyom. On 28 October László Sólyom and his wife Erzsébet Sólyom took part at the celebration held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of NOE (National Association of Large Families).  On 30 October László Sólyom took part at the inauguration of the memorial plaque recording the establishment of the 1956's Revolutionary Student Committee at the one-time building of the Faculty of Phylosophy of ELTE (University). Also on 30 October received members of the Court of the European Communities.

On 4 November 2007 President László Sólyom laid a wreath at the cemetery of Rákoskeresztúr to the memory of the victims of the 1956 revolution and freedom fight. Also on 4 November remembering to the victims of the retaliation following the 1956's revolution and freedom fight, László Sólyom paid a visit at the memorial place of Kisfogház (small jail). On the same day he took part at the wreathing ceremony on the Heroes' Square, paying tribute to the heroes and victims of the 1956 revolution and freedom fight. On 7 November László Sólyom received John Craddock, Commander-in-Chief of NATO European Force. On 8 November in the company of Heinz Fisher, Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Stjepan Mesić, President of the Republic of Croatia, Karolos Papoulias, President of the Hellenic Republic, President László Sólyom has attended the World Science Forum held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, then after the Heads of State Panel they made a walk in the wildlife park of Budakeszi. Also on 8 November the President received His Royal Highness Prince El Hasan bin Talal, prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and President of the Club of Rome in the Sándor Palace. On 10 November he took part at the awarding ceremony of doctors with honours at the Semmelweis University. On 11 November László Sólyom and his wife Madam Erzsébet Sólyom took part at a concert of Jewish-Christian unity in the synagogue of Dohány street. On 13 November the President received Zoltán Lomnici, President of the Supreme Court of Hungary and the National Council of Justice. On the same day he awarded the Commander's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Bente Angell-Hansen, leaving Ambassador of Norway and received at a farewell visit leaving Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland John Roland Nichols. Also on 13 November he took over credentials from Roberto Ochoa Madrid, newly accredited Ambassador of the Republic of Honduras and from Mohammad Fadel Khalaf, newly accredited Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, and received Vojislav Kostunica, Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia. On 16 November László Sólyom received Angel Gurría Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).  On 17 November László Sólyom hosted a dinner in honour of Otto Habsburg on the occasion of his 95th birthday, Archduke and Crown Prince of Austria, Crown Prince of Hungary and Bohemia. On 23 November he received Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Afterwards he awarded the Commander's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Hiromasa Yonekura, Co-chairman of the Hungarian-Japanese Cooperation Forum. On 24 November László Sólyom made a short walk in Debrecen then he took part at the inauguration ceremony of doctors and doctors of honour at the University of Debrecen. On 28 November the President received the members of the Hungarian European Business Council, than he took part and gave an address at the ceremonial assembly of the Supreme Court held on the occasion of 125th anniversary of its establishment. On 29 November László Sólyom has appointed Colonel György Juhász to Brigadier General, and also handed over the appointment letter to Mátyás Vince, President of the Hungarian News Agency.  On the same day he received Colonel Henri Bentégeat, Chairman of the Military Committee of the European Union. and the members of the Government of the Republic of Austria in the Sándor Palace.  On 30 November László Sólyom conferred with Hungarian scientists and intellectuals from beyond borders and from Hungary, in the frame of a conference titled 'Assistance politics, civil initiatives, investments: chance of closing up for Hungarians beyond borders'.

On 4 December 2007 President László Sólyom paid tribute at the cataphalque of Domokos Kosáry in the house of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Also on 4 December he proposed Attila Péterfalvi for the post of commissioner for data protection and Boldizsár Nagy to commissioner for the future generations and met Hungarian church dignitaries from Hungary and from beyond-borders in the Sándor Palace. On 5 December the President took over credentials from newly accredited Ambassadors, from Eugene-Richard Gasana of the Republic of Rwanda, from Gregory John Dorey of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and from Pedro González Rubio Sánchez of the United States of Mexico. On the same day László Sólyom handed over the appointment letter to Csaba Kákosy, Minister of Economy and Transport. On 6 December László Sólyom participated at the session of the Holy Crown Society.  On 7 December the President participated and delivered a speech at the Awards Ceremony for Competition Culture at the Hungarian Competition Authority. On 12 December received the members of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court in the Sándor Palace. Also on 12 December he handed over the Order of Imre Nagy to Zsuzsa Ferge in the Sándor Palace. He also participated and delivered a speech at the ceremony of the Duna Television held on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of its existence in the Hungarian National Theatre.  On 17 December László Sólyom held a reception in honor of caritative organizations in the Sándor Palace. Afterwards he took part at the plenary session of the Parliament when the Members of Parliament decided on the persons of the new parliamentary commissioners. On 18 December the President received the members of the Hungarian National Gypsy Self-Government in the Sándor Palace and also participated at the awarding of the Pro Minoritate Prizes.  On 19 December László Sólyom took part at the Christmas celebration of the National Oncological Institute. On 27 December László Sólyom announced in a statement the return of the bill on health insurance funds and the order of requisition of the compulsory health insurance service in kind to the Parliament for reconsideration.

In 2007 President of the Republic László Sólyom paid official visit in 8 countries and he traveled to another 8 countries for other purposes (private visits to neighbor countries, environmental conferences, lectures-delivering). In the course of the year he carried on discussions with 6 Heads of State visiting Hungary. Thus, the Hungarian Head of State met altogether 19 countries’ Heads of State. It was on 34 occasions he received at the Sándor Palace high-ranking guests (Prime Minister in office, House Speaker, Minister of Foreign Affairs, leaders of Hungarians beyond the border). He carried on conversations on 46 occasions with ambassadors accredited to Hungary when they handed over their credentials (32) or at farewell visit (14). In 2006 he gave 32 letters of credential to ambassadors leaving for abroad. On 8 occasions he took part at events related with foreign affairs (receptions, EU-luncheon, anniversaries, conference on Hungarians beyond borders), furthermore, he took patronage on 4 international events, exhibitions, concerts. It was 90 days in 2006 when László Sólyom had program related to foreign affairs including 33 days abroad.
