Speech by President János Áder at the opening of the World Science Forum in Jordan

Food security:

Our target is to break the vicious circle caused by a growing population, falling per capita water supply and the degradation of agricultural land.

Questions:
How can we produce the same amount of food with less water? How can we improve the efficiency of fertilizers? How can we breed more drought-resistant plants? How can we stop the spread of invasive species?

Energy:

By twenty fifty, two-thirds of humanity will live in cities. It is impossible to maintain and operate cities without sufficient energy.

Questions:
How can we improve the efficiency of energy use? How could we use the huge glass surfaces of high buildings in energy production? How could we store surplus solar and wind energy in an efficient and environmentally friendly way? How could we significantly reduce long-distance transmission losses in energy distribution?

Your Majesty,
Your Royal Highnesses,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,

I thank you for your attention. Permit me to leave you with a thought from Henry Ford:

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
